“I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.”  (John 8:21)

loveJesus definitely knew what he meant when He said the above line and He knew that He was going to have to be lifted up on the cross so that we all could be set free from the horrible sting of sin and death. He also knew very well that this instrument of His death would also become the one true source of life for everyone in the world. All any of us have to do is simply gaze upon that cross.

Here’s something that we all should do. Take some time out of your busy schedule and take a close look at a crucifix. By doing so, you will see the consequences of all our sins and all the sins of those throughout history. Look at the One who took all these consequences upon Himself. Look deeply and see Jesus, the absolute perfect Lamb of God who was willing to embrace the fate that really should have been ours.

Continue looking at the cross and see that the cross offers the perfect definition of love. Jesus once said that the greatest love there is, is “to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”  (John 15:13). So why not let His love for us, His very personal and warm love for us, melt our hearts. Let’s let His compassion for us and His willingness to suffer for all of us move us to offer Him our lives, our will and our own plans.

Think about your brothers and sisters who too may be gazing upon the cross. Understand, that they too have been redeemed just as we have. It is their destiny, our destiny, everyone’s destiny. We need to let their lives, their stories, needs, hopes and dreams move our hearts with love as well. We are not alone! Together with our brothers and sisters in Christ could move mountains in this world if we tried. Together we are one body in Christ and it is our job to tell everyone else this – “Look! Here on the cross! Here is the answer to all of your needs!”

“All praise to You, Jesus, for Your cross! May we become signs of hope, reflecting Your love and passion for souls!”

Consider reading:

Psalm 102:2-3, 16-21

John 8:21-30

Prayer:

Lord, as we gaze upon Your cross help us to see more clearly it’s true meaning.

Help us to understand the consequences of our sins and the sins of everyone.

Help us to embrace the Lamb of God with all our hearts and souls.

Let us gaze upon the cross deeply so that we might see the true definition of perfect love.

Help us to allow this perfect love to engulf us and encourage us to offer our own lives to Christ our Savior.

Amen
