“The measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”  (Luke 6:38)

givingOften our time can be limited, our money is tight and our hearts can be quite guarded. It is not uncommon for us to feel that we are all tapped out and we’ve got nothing more that we can give. However, God nevertheless still asks for us to open up our hearts wide to our neighbors. He really wants us to pass along all the blessings that we have received from Him with all the same generosity that He first gave them to us. He tells us often that if we give a little, then we will receive a little in return. But, if we give as much as we have received then we will be given even more. Our Father in heaven is never outdone when it comes to generosity!

Think about how God might be holding out His hand to you, right now. Maybe He is waiting to see you share your plate with the hungry or help alleviate someone’s loneliness or offer someone forgiveness without them even asking for it. When we do these things we are then imitating Jesus, who didn’t withhold anything from His Father and nothing from us either.

Try and imagine your reaction at the end of your journey when you can actually see just how generous God has been with your offerings. You might say “So much treasure for the little bit I gave?” Now try and imagine just how much more He could do if you gave just a little bit more, just pushed on a little bit more!

“Father, may the wonder of your mercy open my heart to receive all that You have to give me!”

Daniel 9:4-10

Psalm 79:8-9, 11, 13

Prayer:

Lord, we know there are so many things that take our time, our money and our strength, and because of it, we find it difficult to give more.

We know how generous You are and how freely you give. Please show us Lord that even though we may feel totally drained, that there is still more left that we can give and share.

Help us to see that the importance of giving and sharing our blessings with others is a way in which we can glorify You on earth here and now.

Amen
