Daily Prayer of Expectancy
Father in heaven, great and powerful and full of love, I lift my heart in praise for the privilege of coming to You in prayer. Give me special grace as I join Your exalted Son in His ministry of prayer.
Search my heart, Lord, and show me if any sin is hindering Your work in my life. May I respond without delay whenever You make me conscious of sin. How grateful I am for Your total forgiveness the moment I confess my sin, turning back to You as my Lord!
And Father, teach me to pray. How much I yearn to know Your will and Your way. I thank You that Your Son lives within me. What a joy to know that He is my teacher – that through Him I can learn to pray. I can learn to release Your boundless power for both my needs and the needs of many others, near and far. Teach me to pray.
Day by day may Your Spirit work in me, motivating me to abide in Christ and pray in faith, moving Your mighty hand to fulfill Your purposes. Keep reminding me that You are able to do infinitely more than I would ever dare to ask or imagine, by Your mighty power at work within me.
To You be the glory both now and forever.
Pray for All Who Are Suffering
Father, I rejoice in You as the gracious Father of deep empathies, our God who comforts and encourages all of us. I need this so very often, and so do millions of others in Your family and outside. How little I really feel the wrenching sorrows and hopelessness of people as You do. Please stir my heart, Lord. In new ways make me and all of Your children channels of Your deep love and compassion, spending ourselves in both prayer and action for those who suffer.
Lord, please help all those who are suffering in some way. Again and again meet their needs, physical, financial, emotional as well as spiritual. Through their pain or loss or trouble, help make them more aware of how much they need You. Then draw them to You as their Savior and Shepherd and their Lord. Comfort them in their anguish, their pain, their depression, their despair and deliver them.
I pray especially for You people who are going through intense persecution, torture, imprisonment. Help them and their families lean hard on You, and give them supernatural strength. Protect them, encourage them, and uphold them. Provide for their every need as You see them. Make your presence unspeakably real to them.
Give Your joy to those who suffer. Put a new song of praise in their mouth so that many will hear what You’ve done and put their complete trust in You.
2 Corinthians 13:4
Isaiah 58:10-11; 63:9
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17; 3:16
Isaiah 41:10; 43:2; 61:1-3
When it comes to targeting trouble or suffering, it is easier if you pray for just one or two areas that are very intense or ongoing, especially in your area.
