April 18th, Good Friday

To Calvary and Back

“And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.” John 19:30

crucifiedJesus teaches us how to die. He shows us that, even in moments of great personal suffering, love has the power to reach beyond the pain to offer comfort, healing, forgiveness and hope to others. Love is the only way to embrace death. Even in the awful loneliness, and the feelings of sham and devastating failure, Jesus doesn’t respond with cynicism or resentment or anger. He embraces the suffering in his body as part of the human journey, our journey. He unites himself to all of us who will suffer and die. This is how much God loves us.

Dear Jesus, we kneel at the foot of the cross and know that you are there with us in times of trial and suffering.
