We Need to Be Thankful – Even in Our Suffering

You will find it in the Bible everywhere encouraging us to always be thankful. Sure, that’s really an easy thing to do when we feel God has answered our prayers and our problems have been taken care of. But, it is never easy to do when things go wrong in our lives. So, how can we stay thankful even in our suffering?

To make it easier, just realize that there are just two choices to make here. The first choice is to make the decision to praise God no matter what. No matter what is going on in our lives. In other words be thankful and praise him right in the middle of all our troubles and hardships. We can do this because we can still rejoice and praise the things that are not wrong in our lives.

Our second choice is to ask this “God what can I learn from all of this? What do You want to teach me through all this turmoil in my life, so I can be closer to You and then be able to rejoice more fully in all Your goodness?” Not easy questions and sometimes the answers that are given are even harder to hear.

We all need to be given important lessons in our lives and sometimes the only way that we can learn these lessons is when we go through rough times. So we can choose to be bitter and angry about the hard times or we can choose to learn from them and thank Him for the hard times that will eventually lead to better things for us.

So, in the middle of your suffering try to give thanks to God and trust that He will lead you to bigger and better things in your life.

God, I’m thankful for Your love and Your presence. Forgive me for grumbling when things go wrong and remind me of how many things go right in my life. I want to rejoice in You always.

Father John once told me this “Sufferings are the tear drops of Christ.”
