The words that we use on a daily basis are powerful and they do make a big difference in our lives and the lives of others. Words can be sour, sweet, uplifting, degrading, loving, hateful, you name it, they have power. They can hurt feelings deeply, or they can repair a relationship.
Words can build people up or they can completely tear them down. Because our words are so powerful, we need to make sure that we choose them carefully. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, the apostle Paul urges believers to “encourage one another and build each other up.” When we choose kind words we are giving others a taste of God’s kindness and that brings Him honor.
Ask yourself these following questions:
- Is it easier for you to think of kind or unkind words? Why?
- How does sharing kind words make you fee? How does receiving kind words make you feel?
- What are some things you can do this week to replace unkind words with kind words?
