There are so many times when the life around us can be very negative and cynical. It could be something very discouraging in the news or a conversation about what is wrong with this world. In fact you really don’t have to go too far to find a dreary outlook or a hopeless mindset somewhere. Being worshippers of Jesus, it is very important that we don’t let this kind of attitude seep into our own hearts and minds. We are not to be escapist Christians who keep to ourselves and avoid reality, nor should we go along singing a merry song over all of the pain and noise in the world so we can ignore it or drown it all out. Yes, we must engage the issues of the day and make sure to run headlong into our culture that is around us, but at the same time we are also called to try and maintain a different mindset in the middle of all those who are losing hope. We can’t give up on joy, we have to become bright thinking worshippers that are full of truth filled optimism.
Psalm 18 is a good example to work from. Towards the beginning of the psalm it is definitely clear that the writer is not living an easy hassle free existence. However, he is still confident in his God.
“You O Lord keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” (Psalm 18:28)
Try to apply this type of bright thinking to your own life today and always and let it infuse you with confidence when you face all the challenges there are today in this world. God will keep your fire burning and He will keep the dream alive.
