“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, ‘I gave birth to him in pain.’ Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.”
Jabez was named for pain and suffering. When Jabez cries out to God, he is asking God to change everything, to turn his life around. Jabez dares to believe that God can lift him up and redefine who he is. Today, we see God reaching into a man’s life, and answering his cry for help, for change, for purpose, for a new life defined in God. No matter who you are or how others see you, God is more than any of that, and He is poised and ready to meet you where you are and offer you salvation. Through Christ alone you are offered a new birth, a new life free from the cost of sin.
