Romans 5:8-11

“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

In order for our sin to be paid for, we must have died with Christ. Obviously, this is not a physical death, but a death to sin. In Christ we live a new life; born again not into sin but into the righteousness of Christ. All this is done for us as we believe in Jesus and experience reconciliation to God our Father. In Christ we are already set free from sin, the challenge is to remain in the love of God. Jesus said, When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.”  (John 15:10)
